Our lady of Sacred Hearts Church - Randwick

Sydney Churches

My Ratings (7out of 10)

The first thing you niotice about this church in Randwick,Sydney is it's grand size by the side of the road. It's quite impressive and worth a photograph from the opposite side of the road. there is plenty of pavement in the foreground area to capture the bridal party entering and preparing to get ready for the ceremony. A nice large sized foyer to work with and you can capture some nice father daughter shots there.
Now for the interior.

Rather high ceilings can be difficult in some churches due to the lack of bounce for your flash if you are thinking of shooting this way. Some photographers swear by not using a flash at all, i say if i can better the result i will use it. Never close the door on another piece of equipment if it can help.
Luckily, this church produces enough light to go with or without flash. There are soft cream tones that surround the alter and can produce a very moody effect if handled correctly. You can achieve a spot lit effect due to the soft light falling on the raised area of the alter. The architecture falls all around every shot you take in this church. The walls, the stone work, steps, everything.

Nice Symmetry (as with most churches) will allow for grand archway shots upon entry and a centre aisle is always nice for the guests to observe the formality of the entry. The last time i worked here the carpet was a Yale or Prussian blue. Very nice.

If your photographer is thinking of leaving the church quickly after your ceremony, he may be missing some great opportunities within the very walls of the church. Just near the entry of the church is a winding staircase that seems to go on forever. It's very thin for a larger dress but worth the struggle for a great shot.

Loxley on Bellbird - Ceremonies

My Ratings (7 out of 10)

Loxley on Bellbird - Ceremonies

As far as preps and ceremonies go, this is one of the nicer ones.  As you arrive in the gateway you know you have arrived at a little slice of heaven. Loxley on bellbird reception centre have put together a beautiful area for couples, guests and photographers. Wedding preparations are within the chalets dotted along the hillside and cater for many guests as well if required. The huge glass windows allow great prep shots and the rooms are always clean.

Usually the bride will get ready in the executive suite and it comes fully equipped with a large 4 posted bed, timber floors (for colour)  and chase lounge.

The timber decks are great to photograph on and allow privacy as well.
A short stroll away is the ceremony deck which over looks Richmond and Windsor all the way to Sydney (on a clear day).
It is difficult to expose the photograph's for the ceremony and the view all at once. Especially if the sun is bright. Shadows tend to creep along the deck at certain times of the afternoon.. Skill is required and some fill flash to get it right. But when you do it is heavenly.
The only downfall if any is the limitation of movement and the one direction shooting of this deck.
Guests sometimes make it hard to move around and you don't want to annoy them too much.
it is a great group shot that the MC will set up from the balcony...
because this venue often has prep shots here as well it ranks higher than if it didn't.

I am happy to visit again and again to this venue...

St John Evangelist Church, Campbelltown

My Ratings (7 out of 10)

St John the Evangelist - Ceremonies
A nice little ceremony for Chris and Siovhanne. Very hot day indeed and was definately felt in this church. Without the ceiling fans it would have been difficult to operate the service. Bright and clean little church and also had an unlocked upstairs area so i could get a photo from.

Any church that doesn't have some ghastly front lit alter gets my vote.. The wedding couples skin tones will always represent well here. A beautiful full arch to decorate the ceremony area. Plenty of side area for a photographer to work with...Nice long aisle to witch the bride come down...

Norman Lindsay Gallery and Cafe

Ceremony   5 STARS
Location     6 STARS
Reception   7 STARS

Norman Lindsay Gallery
A beautiful guests list of around 70 people. All great friends and family. As the stretch limo arrived the scotish piper filled the air with with what can only be described as one of the most unique sounds for wedding ceremonies. On her fathers arm ,Kellie walked through a vine covered column tunnel at the Norman Lindsay Gallery to where they were married.

Afterwards the guests blew so many bubbles it was hard to see the happy couple. The bridal shoot started with a group shot and then about an hour and a half of perfect light. This was only a 3 hour event for myself and was a good measure of time by this well planned bride. I finished the day with a quick drink with guests before leaving. The Norman Lindsay cafe looked after the guests well from that point on.

My ratings for the Location shoot and reception are as follows..

1 to 10 star rating

* Norman Lindsay Galley - ceremony
***** 5 star - A nice garden area and lawn but i felt it held no great view, nor did it have overly manicured areas. Very secluded though & Peaceful.

* Norman Lindsay Galley
******* 7 star -As far as gardens go, there are plenty of opportunities here. A great columned porch to work with and nice little hidden secrets.

* Norman Lindsay Cafe
****** 6 star -Can only accomdate about 60-70 guests and some will be outside the building. Well set in the bush and perfect for small events that require something a little different.

Westley & Kristy
A Beautiful wedding ceremony taking place at St Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church Penrith. After a picture perfect church gathering we headed for Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Course for some photographs. Westley has been a Pro golfer for many years and knows this course only too well.
The golf buggys are a great help in getting around the course and because there were a fairly large bridal party we needed several golf carts.
After celebrating together on and around the course for an hour or so, we headed to Mandavilla Function Centre, Horsley Park.
It was a smoke filled entry as the happy couple again greeted guests to share dinner and celebrations.
All in all a great day for everyone.

My ratings for the Location shoot and reception are as follows..
